The Return of João Marcos Espresso
We are thrilled to announce the return of João Marcos Espresso! This beloved crop hails from the traditional coffee region of Campos Das Vertentes, Sul De Minas, Brazil. For over 150 years, Brazil has reigned as the largest coffee producing country in the world supplying approximately 40 percent of global demand.
João Marcos Botelho is distinguished for his striking standard of excellence, as head of Quality Control for Sancoffee Estate- a collective of Brazilian coffee growers located in Campo Das Vertentes. He is an esteemed leader in the industry who takes great pride and pleasure in producing specialty coffee on microlots applying traditional natural hand-drying techniques.
Fazenda Santo Antônio (FSA) is the Botelho coffee farm- named after Saint Anthony- where this exclusive Topazio varietal is grown. João Marcos is a third generation grower deeply devoted to excellence and diversity; maintaining a generational focus on trust, quality, and time-honored tradition for over 70 years. Fazenda Santo Antônio is proudly rainforest alliance certified.
Andrea Spella journeyed to Fazenda Santo Antônio in 2013 to connect personally with the Botelhos, AFASA, and Santo Antonio Estates. He was captivated by their deep commitment to honoring family heritage, sharing mutual values of compassionate care and gracious service within communities. Both João and Andrea approach each batch of beans with unwavering dedication to detail, quality, and precision. They both share a depth of knowledge and love for the craft that is truly exceptional. We are positively delighted to share this coffee with our families, and this lovely community!
Our best Espresso may use a mixture of beans, but this year's crop of João Marcos is so complete, we are confident in its ability to stand on its own as a truly expressive and complex espresso. Rich and full-bodied, our João Marcos evokes the sweetness of walnuts and cherries covered in dark chocolate. When brewed as a pour over, João mirrors the subtle hints of cocoa in walnut brownies. João Marcos exudes an enchanting aroma and spirited zest that will immerse you in the vibrant and breathtaking landscapes of Brazil.
We primarily suggest João Marcos as espresso. It also shines as a Moka pot, Melitta pour-over, and Aeropress.
This dynamic Brazilian bean of Santo Antonio do Amparo contains all the quintessential complexity Spella desires in producing the finest traditional Italian espresso. It dazzles the palette like a decadent dessert flowing with rich and buttery velvety crema. Just wait until you taste it paired with our new Stracciatella and Nocciola (hazelnut) gelato! We can hardly wait to share it with you!
