Limited Edition Coffee MJ Brew was created for Jazz Quartet, MJ New

We're proud to collaborate with Darrell Grant's chamber jazz quartet MJ New again on MJ Brew! A decade after their first concert in Portland, they released their debut recording Friday, October 6th. You can order your copy here. If you are in Portland, look for beans at the official album release concert on Thursday, October 12th at The Hallowed Halls. There will be a limited run of this blend on the Spella Caffè website on October 13.

This 1/2 lb bag of whole beans contains a signature blend of smoky Guatemalan, sweet Brazilian, and other secret beans tailored to the music of Darrell Grant's MJ New Quartet. MJ New’s sophisticated chamber jazz venerates the classic cool of the legendary Modern Jazz Quartet. This mid-range roast evokes salons of the Harlem Renaissance and autumn in New York with a nod to Bach’s Coffee Cantata. 

We've been roasting this signature blend for MJ New concerts since 2017 and are proud to offer it on our website for the first time. Perhaps the only jazz quartet with its own coffee blend, MJ New is led by longtime friend of Spella pianist Darrell Grant, Bay-Area bassist Marcus Shelby, vibraphonist Mike Horsfall, and LA-based drummer Cecil Brooks III.
